Project Name: Cardenas' Markets
Cardenas' Markets implement a new upgraded décor that sets a new standard in grocery stores.
The designer for the market received a charter to create a Latino décor that sets a new standard for Southern California grocery stores. The designer created murals on most every wall, granite counter tops, inlaid marble walls in the bakery and of course the decorative concrete floor to complement all the upgrades and enhance the Latino market atmosphere. Decorative concrete floors were specified by the architect for their durability, economy and most importantly their flexibility of design. We worked closely with the designer to create the designs and patterns.
Prior to beginning the floor installation, an MVER calcium chloride test was completed to determine sealer compatibility concurrently with L. M. Scofield Company's LITHOCHROME® Chemstain® Classic color samples applied for color verification on the substrate. All eight colors were applied. Most colors were applied in varying intensity (acidstain/water dilutions) until the designer was satisfied with the colors.
The project was completed in three sections of about 10,000 SF each to allow other trades the ability to continue working during the floor installation. The substrate was patched and expansion joints were filled with an appropriate material. The numerous patterns were laid out and cut before diamond grinding. Each food section of the market employed different colors and different designs. As the grinding was completed the taping and acid staining with Chemstain begun.
Once staining was completed the substrate was sealed with two coats of SCOFIELD® Cureseal-W™. Afterwards, 4 coats of floor wax were applied and then the floor was covered with protection paper to protect it during the remaining construction. Once completed and the shelves were stocked, the floor was cleaned and additional coats of wax were applied. From start to finish this job took just one month.
