Project Name: Lifestyle Village at Freehold Raceway Mall
Patterns, textures and colors add cohesiveness and beauty to a durable plaza area
The project consisted of a Lifestyle Village expansion to the existing Freehold Raceway Mall. The project consisted of 5 one-story and two-story retail and restaurant use structures, some attached to the Mall building and several freestanding. To achieve a cohesive assembly of the buildings and their relationship to the existing Mall and redesigned adjacent parking areas, a generous plaza design was necessary to connect the various structures.
The plaza areas were interspersed with landscaping, seating, decorative lighting, directories and sculpture for shoppers convenience and interest. Concrete was chosen for all plaza work due to its durability and ease of maintenance in this heavy use retail environment.
To provide design interest and give compatibility with the architecture, various patterns, textures and tinted concrete using Scofield colors were utilized to provide interest and accentuate Mall and restaurant entrances, drop-off zones, highlight seating areas, valet parking etc.
Overall, 1,445 cubic yards of concrete was used in 4 tints, 3 textures and various jointing patterns.
